World AIDS Day is a time to reflect and remember all those we lost and those who are still fighting HIV. It’s a time to recognize the medical pioneers, activists, and loved ones who have fought since the early 1980’s to find an end to this epidemic.
This year, ARE is hosting three events to honor World AIDS Day. We hope you can join us.
Join ARE in an open-house event located at ARE offices (124 West Piccadilly Street) to mingle with community members, have some food, learn about the history of HIV, and find out about ARE services.
ARE invites you to Shenandoah University (Ferrari Room, Brandt Student Center) in watching “The Last One”, a film about the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Popcorn and drinks are provided, and door prizes will be given out.
ARE would like to invite the community to a World AIDS Day remembrance event at Shenandoah University (Ferrari Room, Brandt Student Center). There will be a candlelight vigil, songs by the Shenandoah Choir, and guests speakers to talk about living with HIV.

World AIDS Day is December 1st, 2016.
This day is a remembrance of the past 35 years of the HIV epidemic. Countless lives have been lost to the disease, and the epidemic changed the world.
There are still millions of people living with HIV today. Possibly hundreds of thousands more living with HIV that don’t know their status. HIV is still prevalent in many areas across the world, including the deep South.
We still have work to do to get to zero new HIV infections.
Light refreshments will be served. A candle-light vigil will be held immediately after the ceremony.

ARE is currently seeking donations of tampons, panty-liners, soap, incontinence products, wet wipes, tissue packs, body/shower wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. for homeless women and transgender men in our area!
We often take the simple luxuries of having tampons and soap for granted. But for homeless individuals these items can be rather costly and often not obtainable.
If you would like to donate, please bring or mail your donations to 124 West Piccadilly Street Winchester, VA 22601.
